Who We Are

Going Green is emerging as the leader in horticultural consulting in the Southeast by providing landscape companies, homeowners and community groups with the education and skills to implement organic and sustainable landscaping.

About Dave Norton

Dave Norton, our fearless leader, is well-equipped with vast knowledge and experience. He has been serving the industry since 1994. Beginning his early years working hard at local nurseries, he gained understandings of regionally suitable plants and trees and how they grow in the landscape. Dave is a certified and degreed landscape horticulturist and contractor and has honed his skills throughout the years working with top design/build firms in the Atlanta market. His project management and construction experience are invaluable to Going Green as the our installations in metro-Atlanta market are expanding.

Dave is a great listener and is excellent in client service. He enjoys being on properties and taking time to learn more about customer needs. You may see him around your property this spring working in a variety of roles because he wears all the hats very well and is always working to support the team. An avid Georgia Bulldogs fan, Dave enjoys Saturdays in the fall! In his free time, he can also be found in the yard or garden playing with his daughter, Lillie Mae, or you guessed it, working on his own ever-evolving landscape!

Spring is here!

With the early onset of the spring season in the Metro-Atlanta area, we have been graced with an abundance of beautifully blooming cherry and redbud trees and with the emergence of dogwoods long before Easter this year. While many bulb perennial winter bulb beds may have been hit and stunted by the brief wintry snap during early February, we have good reason to hope that the end of the winter season is past and that warm weather flowers are right around the corner.

Along with the early blooming trees, shrubs and weeds, we are also experiencing an early outbreak of nuisance pests like gnats and even mosquitos. Experts predict that with mild winter temperatures, many of the warm weather insects are already breeding and are expected to be in larger numbers than usual. Good cultural practices in your landscape and yard will help limit breeding grounds. With the frequent rainfalls, there are more areas prone to having standing water in the yard, on play grounds and in planter pots. Less obvious places to be sure to keep clean are leafy areas not cleared since fall where there are crevices and “bowls” for water to stand and stagnate?

Aphids, mites, scale and whiteflies are a few landscape pests which are expected to be in abundance early this spring. Have you treated your ornamentals with horticultural oil and begun scouting for pests? If not, the window is narrowing to get these little crawlers before an outbreak occurs. If you need advisement on Integrated Pest Management or how to properly use natural preventatives, let us know and we can help!

In addition to the pests, frequent rains and warm temperatures provide an excellent atmosphere for plant diseases and fungus to proliferate. Keep your eyes out for red or brown patches or spots showing up on shrubs. You may also notice more turf diseases earlier than usual. We have several eco-friendly fungicides that can be applied on your property – give us a call if you need an evaluation.
